That’s a nice Macbook running your Windows-only software you’ve got there, Microsoft.
Speaking as someone who’s taken a recent interest in music appreciation, the concept of SongSmith seems like something that would be fun. What could be more fun than being able to have a piece of software automatically generate tunes to match your singing? Using that same piece of software to ruin old classics.
Update:
From the TechCrunch Comments:
I can’t believe you guys! A few researchers (yes, people with *PhDs*, people FAR smarter than you will ever be) and their kids make a video, and you people make a soap opera out of it.
Why don’t YOU make a video for your Crunchbase (or whatever actual non-cringeworthy product you guys make) with your colleagues and your family, and put it on the internet? Then we can make fun of your programmers beer belly and your daughters lisp.
This was a promo for a *RESEARCH* product. It is NOT a Microsoft product. It is NOT being sold, and it is NOT being marketed by Microsoft. They made a home video, which actually USES the product it is promoting, and does a nice job at it.
Sure, it’s a little amateurish, but it IS kinda fun. Why don’t you just enjoy the product? Clearly you haven’t tried it, you were too busy making a soap opera out of it all.
Doh. Those folks at Microsoft Research should have probably known that the video was going to recieve this kind of warm welcome from the hostile-to-all-things-MSFT tech blogosphere. Plus the production values are really, really good for a “home video.”
