About

Marketing Ninja’s Mission:

It is the mission of Marketing Ninja to educate startup owners, small business owners, and anyone wanting to get into the bloody mess known as “social media” on how to avoid drinking the Kool Aid and becoming another cautionary tale. In addition, we aim to provide insight on how to build better web services and be a good citizen in the web services community.

My name is Aaron Stannard (Aaronontheweb) and I am a marketer for a medium-sized software company called SmartDraw.com. I graduted in May, 2008 from Vanderbilt University with a B.S. in Computer Science. Marketing-Ninja is a diary of my marketing experiences, ideas, questions, and interests; you will find that I often write about:

  • marketing practices that have and have not worked for me;
  • my experiences at SmartDraw and Working Smarter, the official SmartDraw blog (I am its manager;)
  • my opinions on how some web-based technologies can be used as effective marketing instruments;
  • my rants about some current events that affect the field of marketing or my productivity in general; and
  • every now and then I’ll call out a firm or a specific individual for doing stuff that makes me hate my profession.

History of Marketing Ninja

I originally started a blog called AjaxNinja in June, 2007 to write about web development and building robust ASP.NET applications; however, through the process of using social media to promote my blog I became greatly interested into the science of using social media and other online tools to market products, ideas, and people. In late February, 2008, I moved my blog to Marketing-Ninja.com and have been here ever since.

The thing this blog was most well-known for were its articles on Facebook Application development using ASP.NET – I got started with that pretty early on in the lifespan of the Facebook Platform and I still receive a lot of Google traffic on the subject today.

Nowadays I like to think that I’m known for my candor about the lawless wasteland otherwise known as online marketing.
